A night shoot just for fun

I got together with some members of the Woodlands Photography Club for an instructional night shoot and I enjoyed just playing around with some lighting setups. Thanks Vu for putting it together!

Harry Lord's 100th Birthday {Houston Family Portrait Photographer}

I love shooting different sessions like newborns, engagement sessions, etc. But it's such an amazing thing to be asked to shoot a 100th Birthday family portrait session!

Mr. Harry Lord turned 100 years old this year and there was a celebration to be had! His family flew in from all over to be with him and then the senior home also had a celebration for him. We started off the day with family portraits and even had a group of about 28 people! The family gathered for lunch after all the pictures (thanks for your patience!) and then the joined the rest of the residents to listen to the musicians that came to play for the birthday party. It was so fun to listen to some big band tunes and to see Mr. Harry Lord dancing with others or by himself.

He was such a trooper and he's still so active and so funny. It was a joy to be a part of the birthday celebration and to be a part of an amazing milestone in life.

To see the rest of the images, go to my website http://www.karellephotography.com/ and click on 'Portraits,' then 'Digital Studio', and find "Harry Lord's 100th Birthday." You'll see the images that are on my blog and as well as the rest of the images.

Week 31......Houston sight-seeing

If you've seen the YouTube video, then you've seen these pictures already. If not, then go check it out!

Taken by the waterwall.

Still at the waterwall.

And another one by the waterwall.

I don't actually remember where I took this one....maybe on Westheimer somewhere?
365-0804-1

Ok, what is it? No, really, WHAT IS IT? I don't know what it is and I'm looking for answers.
365-0804-2

Spent half the day at NASA.
365-0805-1

Then headed to Galveston.

The caption for this shot: "Physics student learning stuff." Pretty fancy title, eh?

Week 31......So excited about this!!!!!

My "cousin" (actually, he's my cousins's cousin) came to Houston for a week and we hung out and did some tourist-y things in Houston. It was a blast! While in conversation, he said something that sparked an idea for me and I came up with this idea to give him something better than just a few pictures of him at each sight. I hope it makes you want to see more of Houston!

Week 29......Catching Up!

Ok, the 365 shots in July were sporadic so I only have a few to show for the month. It was a busy time!
I volunteered with Vacation Bible School at my church and I was in the classroom with first graders. I really enjoyed my week with them and not surprisingly, I was tired each day when we were finished. It might have something to do with going up and down four flights of stairs 3 times each day.

365-0717

Just playing around with stuff. This won't even be a "What is it" shot because it's too random.
365-0718

Ok, I'm cheating. Yes, this shot was taken back in June and I already posted but I wanted to discuss it a little bit. Why do I do what I do? Because of comments like this one:

"Also, I almost [cried] when I saw the picture of my grandphather."

When people react like that, it absolutely makes my day. And this wasn't even a session. It was literally taken in a matter of 30 seconds and then we moved on. But it's important to his family because they say that that's exactly how they remember him, with those thoughtful eyes.

Meet my little cousin! He has the cutest curls, and yes he really is that cute. This was what he looked like as a wee little newborn.
